Welcome
Welcome to North West Ambulance Service's Community First Responder Website.
North West Ambulance Service Community First Responders are Everyday members of the public who are trained in the use of a Automated External Defibrillator, to provide 24 hour cover in rural locations and support the regular ambulance service in attending serious and life threatening 999 calls in and around the community.
Each First Responder devotes and volunteers their time to both train and provide cover on a rota system organised by local community based groups, headed and organised by a Team Leader.
The Team Leader is responsible for training, rotas and also arranging essential communication between the individual groups and Ambulance headquarters to ensure a professional dissemination of information & communication between the two.
There are currently 33 established schemes throughout Lancashire and 52 established schemes in Cumbria with over 1600 volunteers trained in basic life support and defibrillation skills and 95 static trained staff. North West Ambulance Service through the First Responder schemes are responsible for 228 community based defibrillators.
